This workshop will explore intimacy and erotic recovery and integrative relationship therapy as it applies to working your most difficult relationship dilemmas.
All clinicians who work with anyone in any type of relationship will learn the skills and interventions to help clients out of the intimacy impasses that can lead to loneliness, frustration, and even infidelity.
We will cover the most common problems in sexual relationships. This includes communication blocks, desire discrepancies, trauma, sexless relationships, sexual dysfunctions, affairs, separation, and divorce. All these problems work with both individual therapy and in relationship counseling.
If you are an individual therapist or someone who needs more training to work with relationship impasses and erotic recovery, this workshop can help. You will walk away with interventions to help any client in a relationship, looking for a relationship, or trying to process their past.
Following an overview of clinical concepts in integrative relationship therapy and sex therapy, we will turn our attention to skills to create safety, increase trust, and build repair. We will explore and learn interventions for sexual, intimate, and emotional concerns that reduce anxieties (for both the client and the therapist).
Specific paradigms we will cover include low sex and no sex marriages, low desire and desire discrepancy, affairs and monogamy breaches, and compulsive sexual behaviors in and out of the marriage. We will also look at how to create and repair open marriage and monogamy agreements.
In addition, this course will cover the fundamentals of erotic recovery and how to work with curiosity and openness. Participants will learn the foundations of sex therapy and the tools of sexual communication, including sexual empathy, validation, and visioning.
Clients who repeat patterns that lead to self-destructive behaviors both in their own lives and with a partner can create frustration for the therapist. They can also trigger countertransference, bias, projection, and even hopelessness. We will use alternative techniques to explore countertransference and therapist self-care to avoid burnout and secondary traumatization.
Based on the latest in research, real life case examples, and over 30 years of clinical practice, this course is for therapists already certified who want an advanced integrative approach plus the latest alternative interventions. This course is also for the beginner clinician who needs tools to use right away in their office.
As we gather in beautiful Cancun, Mexico, after what has been a difficult couple of years for everyone in this field, we will practice self-care and self-healing to revive our spirits and bring a new passion to the work of healing.
